FORKLIFT INSTRUCTOR COURSES ANNOUNCED

Forklift Agency is pleased to announce the dates for the next Forklift Instructor Course at our training facility in Cambridge;

Course Dates; Starts 2nd February 2009 and ends 13th February 2009

Cost = £1250.00 + VAT

5 Day Refresher - £600 + VAT
3 Day Refresher - £400 + VAT

For anyone attending the 10 day course, the applicant must be in possession of an RTITB operators certificate and have been refreshed within the last 12 months.

Potential Instructors are required to have a high level of operating skills and will be required to pass the basic operators test on day one of their instructor course up to instructor standard, Anyone who feels that they may need extra training to raise their standards are advised to contact Gary Fairbairn to arrange a training day.

Each candidate will receive Health and Safety publications for their training course.

Lunch is provided daily and accommodation cab be arranged if requested.

All test fees are included, there are no further costs.

Higher Penalties for Health and Safety Breaches

A new act has recently come into force which will see the penalties for imposed health and safety breaches rise. At the moment magistrates can impose a fine upto £20,000 for breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and fines of up to £5,000 for breaches of many of the Health and Safety breaches.

Imprisonment is only available for a very limited number of offences, such as breaching improvement notices or prohibition notices.

The Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008;

Increases the maximum fine which may be imposed by magistrates to £20,000 for most Health and Safety offences.
Allows imprisonment to be an availablepunishment for more Health and Safety offences; and
Makes a number of offences, which at present can only be heard by the magistrates, also be heard in the crown courts which have stronger sentencing powers.

This now means that the maximum the magistrates can impose for Health and Safety breaches is to be increased to £20,000, bringing it in line with the maximum for a breach of section two or three of the 1974 act.

Individuals found to have breached any of the core obligations under the act or any of the regulations could face imprisonment of up to 12 months by the magistrates or up to 2 years by the crown courts, if convicted.

The purpose of the change is to try and deter companies and their management in offending. According to the HSE, the average fine for Health and Safety offences in England in 2006/7 was over £12k, an increase on the previous year which was just over £9k.

Forklift Agency has chosen Vodafone to supply all of our Mobile Telephones and Mobile Broadband requirements, for the next 2 years. Vodafone has provided our admin staff with the latest Blackberry Storm handset, so that emails can be answered quicker and more efficiently, the other benefit is that the Blackberry Holders can message each other using email, instead of text. These handsets have integrated easily into our Microsoft Exchange Server.

Vodafone has also provided our Training Manager Jeff Ramzan and Director Rhys Adams with their latest 3G modem solution, the Modem Stick Pro. These dongles offer speeds of up to 7.2mbps nd upload speeds up to 1mbps. The speed has already made a huge difference compared with our old T-Mobile Web and Walk modems.

Working Time Regulations - Update

From the 1st April 2009, The Working Time (Amendment) Reulations 2007 will increase the statutory minimum holiday entitlement to 28 days or 5.6 weeks.

Does this apply to your business?
Well it could do, if you currently give your employees 4 weeks plus Bank Holidays, then you don't have to do anything. The 5.6 days or 28 days takes into account the eight bank holidays. If you don't, then make sure you do from April 2009 and remember to let your employees know by issuing a new employment contract or by placing a statement on your wage slip.

Additional Rights?
Until 1st April 2009, payment in lieu for anything over 4 weeks holiday may be given. After the 1st April 2009, 5.6 weeks must be taken in each leave year, although anything over 4 weeks can be carried over to the next year. Any holiday above these requirements, can be carried over and staff can be paid in lieu if your contract of employment says so.

Today Forklift Agency Group have agreed to sponsor the running costs for Danielle Rider's website for the next year, with sponsorship banners on each page and the top sponsor listing on the Sponsorship page.

Danielle Rider is currently number 1 in the Junior Ladies Cross Country Mountain Bike League in the Midlands, winning 1st place of almost all of the last races she has participated in. Chris Rider, Father said "We've always wanted a web presence but never had the time, or the spare funds to set anything up. Forklift Agency has done us a huge favour, which will pay dividends in the future as she has started training with the Olympic teams at Mallory Park, ready for the London 2012 Olympic Games."
